About Me
This is the first thing I did in this class.
7 Elements of Art
These are the 7 elements of art with 4 different examples of each element.
Zentangle
This was one of my favorites to do. My zentangle was in the shape of a snake with a bunch of patterns I like.
Creative Color Wheel
This is a round cloud with the rain being the different colors in the color wheel.
Critique
This is a painting by Pablo Picasso titled The Old Guitarist. It's an oil painting created in 1903-1904. The painting shows an old man sitting cross-legged in tattered clothes on the floor with a guitar in his arms. He wears no shoes and his head hangs low as he strums the guitar. The painting is made mostly from blue and green hues as most of Picasso's paintings were in this period.
Blue is considered a sad color. The use of blues and greens along with the torn clothes show struggle and sadness. People usually feel sympathy for older people, meaning Picasso might have used that sympathy to create an even sadder mood.
The colors used create a somber mood. The old man appears to be tired or sad as he plays the guitar. From his clothes and lack of shoes, it appears that the man is poor and/or homeless, likely representing Picasso's financial troubles in this time period. Picasso had trouble selling his paintings in this time and it's very common to see someone on the streets playing music for money, as the man in this painting is likely doing. This could show that Picasso feels as though he was just painting for money at the time.
I really like this painting. I think the mood Picasso tried to create came across very well. The idea of the old man playing for money creates sympathy, as I said before. The detail in the man makes him look very realistic, but his sleeve on the left almost blends in with the background. The guitar lacks detail, but the man makes up for it. The shading and shadows make it seem as if he is hiding in them or playing at night, also adding to the somber mood.
Junk Food Color Schemes
This is a drawing of Fanta with 8 boxes and a different color schemes in each box.
Portfolio
This is the front of my portfolio.
This is the back of my portfolio. It's just a bunch of colors I like.
These are the 9 perspective boxes.
The first few are a little light and someone stepped on it, but this is my drawing of 5 perspective shapes.
This is a room with 5 pieces of furniture all in perspective.
Perspective Outside
This is my outside perspective practice with 2 building and house.
Bird's Eye View Perspective
I draw 5 building with bird's eye view perspective and weird road.
Art Instillation
This project was really weird to make, but I like it. My mini instillation was inspired by Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls).
Portrait
This is my first portrait drawing. The right picture is the original photograph of a girl named Xoe.
Mandala
This is a mandala that I drew and colored following a cool color scheme.
Tempera Batik
This is a painted red panda that was covered in ink and washed.
Metal Tooling
This is a metal work of an alien abducting a cat.
Frog
I was going to try to make something really interesting, but I really wanted to draw Freddy Krueger's shirt, so I drew Froggy Krueger.
About Me, Again
My name is Nikki and I'm fifteen years old. This is my first year at Heritage and I was placed in art. Originally coming to this class, I didn't like it. I didn't expect to do such a wide variety of artworks and it kind of bummed me out because I only felt confident in my pencil sketches. Before this class, that's all I ever did. I shunned color and large scale pieces. My artworks were all in the form of doodles in the margins of worksheets and on the desks in AP Government (sorry, Mr. Price). Through this class, though, I learned to be more confident in new styles of art, and although I'm still uncomfortable presenting them, I'm more comfortable attempting works with color and different materials. My favorite and best work of the year was definitely the pencil portrait, though. I can only stray so far from my favorite medium.
Thank you, Mrs. Rojas, for introducing me to styles of art I would never consider attempting on my own.
